Household final consumption expenditure (HFCE) is relevant for all analyzing private consumption and its economic significance. This includes ministries and public authorities, which use HFCE for planning, trends, forecasts, and modelling; industry and interest organizations for analyzing consumption patterns; and researchers, journalists, and the public seeking insight into household consumption over time. User feedback is continuously considered to keep the statistics relevant and useful.
User Needs
A wide range of users, both external and internal, uses Household final consumption expenditure (HFCE) for various purposes. External professionals, such as staff in ministries, municipalities, institutions, and the business sector, use HFCE data for analyses of consumption patterns, economic trends, and economic planning. Analysts, including researchers and employees with access to Micro-data, use the statistics for policy and socio-economic analyses, for example to assess private demand and household economic behavior.
Particularly interested users, such as journalists, students, and organizations, use HFCE data to shed light on specific topics related to household consumption in reports, assignments, and articles. The general public and school students use the statistics to gain an overview of consumption in Denmark, to understand the national economy, or to compare consumption over time.
Internally at Statistics Denmark, HFCE data are used as input for other statistics and macroeconomic analyses, for example in Statistics Denmark’s macroeconomic model, ADAM. International organizations, including Eurostat, the IMF, the OECD, and the UN, use HFCE data for international economic comparisons and the development of international business cycle indicators. The HFCE statistics therefore serve a broad group of users with needs ranging from detailed analytical insight to more general overviews of the household final consumption in Denmark.
User Satisfaction
There are no actual user satisfaction surveys for the national accounts and thereby the HFCE, but Statistics Denmark has several forums where central users of the national accounts and adjacent statistics have the opportunity to participate, for example:
Economic Statistics User Committee
The Economic Statistics User Committee has the following general tasks:
- discuss and evaluate the results achieved and the planned development of economic statistics - discuss users' use of economic statistics and their need for new statistics - discuss the quality, documentation, and dissemination of economic statistics
Read more about the Economic Statistics User Committee, where the commissariat and member list are available in Danish.
User meetings on the quarterly national accounts
In connection with the publication of the quarterly national accounts, information meetings are held, where members of the Economic Statistics User Committee have the opportunity to ask questions and get detailed explanations of the latest figures.
