Economics and employment of the sporting activities

The statistics are comparable throughout the published period. Changes in the statistics over time, including the transition to COICOP2018, have resulted in higher figures for sports consumption. The statistics can be compared with selected results from the the Employment statistics, The Labour Market Account and General Enterprise Statistics, as well as Cultural Business Structure and Labour Market.

Comparability - geographical

These statistics are not subject to any EU regulations, but the delimitation follows the EU Commission's definition of sporting industries.

Comparability over time

These statistics are comparable through the entire published period.

In connection with the new nomenclature for household consumption COICOP2018, new consumption groups have been established to show sports consumption in table IDRFU11. The sum of the consumption groups forms the basis for the new collection of tables that show sports-related consumption from 2015 onwards. In general, sports consumption has increased for all tables when comparing with the old collection of tables for sports consumption, which was based on the ECOICOP nomenclature. This is because, when introducing the new nomenclature, an attempt has been made to slim down the survey in order to ease the respondent burden, which is why some entries have become coarser when introducing COICOP2018. For sports consumption, this particularly concerns the grouping "Clothing and shoes", where several smaller entries from earlier have been merged and consumption is thus higher. Another reason for the increased sports-related consumption is due to the new group "Betting, odds and games" being incorporated into the statistics.

Coherence - cross domain

These statistics are based on statistics on employment, register-based labor force statistics, Register-based employment statistics, The Consumption Survey, and General Enterprise Statistics.
