The statistics on folk high school courses provide a complete description of the population’s participation in courses at folk high schools and independent prevocational schools.
The statistics on course participants at folk high schools provide background information on the participants broken down by the length of courses and type of high school. In general, the figures from the two sets of statistics are comparable, but minor differences may exist because of the different methods of assessment.

Folk high school courses
The statistics on folk high schools and independent prevocational schools are included in Statistics Denmark’s Register of courses, which offers a complete description of the population’s participation in individual adult and continuing training courses , i.e. formal, external training courses that are funded, managed and organised by a public provider and take place outside working hours. The activity in home economics and handicraft schools (today called independent prevocational schools) was registered from the early 1970s, and the folk high school activity was included from the 1980s. For the folk high schools, only the activity in courses of long length was registered (i.e. courses of 12 weeks or longer), but from the school year 2011-2012, the shorter courses were also included.

Participants in folk high school courses
The statistics on participants in folk high school courses are released annually and describe the background of the participants in folk high school courses. The statistics supplement Statistics Denmark’s assessments of the activity in the folk high school area of adult and continuing training as well as the background of the participants in terms of age, gender, ancestry, education, income and area of residence. The course participants are stated both as the number of participants and converted to full time equivalent students. The participants are broken down by the length of their courses, distinguishing between short, medium and long courses.
