Distance to general practitioner (experimental statistics)

The statistics distance to closest general practitioner, is a measure of the average distance between a persons home address and the nearest general practitioner. The statistics further measure the use of general practitioner according to hove far away a person lives from the general practitioner. The statistics is divided into the population that sees the general practitioner at least once during the measurement year and the population that does not see the doctor during the measurement year. The statistic is further divided into 10 year age groups, gender and municipality groups.

Data description

The statistics holds information on average distance to general practitioner in the Danish population. The statistics is published for the population with a valid home address in Denmark on 1st of January in the measurement year. The statistics is further divided into the population that has seen a general practitioner at least once in the measurement year and the population that has not seen the general practitioner in the measurement year. Besides average distance to the general practitioner the statistics also hold the number of people in the specific population group.

Classification system

These statistics use the classification the municipality groups classification, which divides Denmark's municipalities into five groups based on the number of inhabitants in the largest city in the municipality and accessibility to jobs, respectively.

Statistical concepts and definitions

Distance to general practitioner: The geographical distance from a person’s place of residence to the nearest general practitioner. The distance is measured as the shortest distance in kilometres along the road network between the place of residence and the nearest general practitioner.

Population as of january 1st, 2024 with valid address and medical capacities having given services in 2024
