Indicators
14.1.1: Eutrophication index
Definition
Eutrophication in Danish marine areas is measured by the concentration of chlorophyll, which indicates the amount of phytoplankton in the water. The indicator covers fjords and coastal waters as well as open inner waters. Data are available in the report Marine Areas 2023. Source: NOVANA, Aarhus University – DCE, National Centre for Environment and Energy.
According to the official UN definition, the indicator also includes data on the density of floating plastic debris; however, such data are not yet available for Denmark.
