Trade in organic food

Here you will find statistics concerning e.g. the turnover of organic goods in supermarkets and department stores and be able to see whether the sale of e.g. organic milk has increased or decreased.

Introduction

Domestic trade in organic foods provides detailed information about the development in the sale of organic foods and drinks in Denmark in the retail trade and to the food service sector.

  • Turnover of organic foods in retail shops covers supermarkets, department stores, groceries and kiosks and comprises developments in the sale from 2003 to the present. The turnover is stated in volume and value broken down by commodity group and based on annual reports from the major supermarket chains and food wholesale dealers. Sales from specialized shops, farms and subscription schemes are not included.
  • Sale of organic goods to the food service sector describes the sale of organic foods and drinks to the food service sector (restaurants, canteens, catering establishments, cafés, etc.) from 2013 to the present. The sale is broken down by commodity group and customer group. Information about the sale to the food service sector is collected from food wholesale dealers.
