These statistics contain information on the population’s hospitalisations and outpatient visits to the public somatic hospitals. Among others, you can find information on the number of hospitalisations and outpatient visits, as well as the patients’ sex, age, and diagnosis.
The statistics on hospital utilization are based on the Danish Health Data Authority’s National Patient Register combined with information from the Danish Civil Registration System, as well as other registers from Statistics Denmark. The statistics are updated annually.
Please note the statistics have not been updated since the end of 2018 as we are waiting for a data delivery from the Danish Health Data Authority. However, we expect to be able to update the statistics before the end of 2022.
Diagnoses are classified according to the WHOs International Classification of Diseases (ICD).
During 1977-1993, diagnoses were classified according to the Danish version of the ICD-8, after which the Danish version of the ICD-10 was taken into use. An overview of the Danish version of the ICD-10 can be found at medinfo.dk.
Statistics Denmark mainly operates with two abbreviated versions of the WHOs classification system, namely a 99 grouping and a 23 grouping. An overview of the diagnosis groups included in the 99-grouping can be found atKey between diagnoses and the 99 – grouping
